Apply for jobs
There are a number of ways to apply for job openings. It is very important to follow any instructions an employer provides about how to apply. Some employers will only accept information electronically. Others will only accept completed job applications. Some will not accept phone calls about openings. Other employers will want additional material, like work samples or references. Don't be disqualified for an opening because you didn't follow the instructions.
Options for applying include:
-
Use electronic options to apply for jobs. The
Resume Tutorial will walk you through the process of creating resumes and cover letters. Email a resume, cover letter, or a link to your online portfolio to the employers you want to work for. Submit resumes and cover letters using job banks, such as
America's Job Bank, and boards. Keep in mind that it’s easy to apply electronically; stay focused by only applying for jobs that match your goals.
-
Apply in person. Complete a job application on the spot. Or start the conversation that will get you hired by asking to speak to the hiring manager or business owner to discuss opportunities.
-
Send your resumes, cover letters, and other information in the mail or by couriers. It’s almost as fast as email and you can influence the impression it makes by the paper, formatting, and fonts you use.
